Deep 4-32 Koa Fretless 32" Scale Bass #1620
Deep 4-32 Koa Fretless 32" Scale Bass #1620
Deep 4-32 Koa #1620. This is the shorter scale brother of the Deep 4. It features the same Deep 4 body shape, made of semi-hollow alder with a gorgeous aged curly koa top (50+ year old wood). This particular koa is quite nice, in that it is incredibly 3D from some angles, yet subtle enough to appear understated from a distance. The 32” scale mahogany neck has a lined fretless ebony fingerboard and matching bridge. The electronics are the standard Deep 4 circuit, with a master volume on the bridge, and a stacked tone control on the face of the body (bass/treble cut and boost, with a center detent). Mounting the stacked pot on the face of the instrument leaves the bridge free for the palm muting technique, which produces some of the best tones this bass has to offer.
The shorter 32” scale gives the bass an incredible thick tone; it is slightly less punchy on the initial attack that the full scale Deep 4, however the fullness in the low end and the blooming tone as it sustains is exceptional, and unique to the shorter scale. Strings are Rotosound Tru-Bass 88, a steel flatwound with a thin black nylon tape.
The bass comes in a custom made G & G form fit case, produced locally in Los Angeles Ca.
