MB-2 Rosewood Fretless 34" Scale Bass #1633
MB-2 Rosewood Fretless 34" Scale Bass #1633
MB-2 Rosewood #1633. This one of a kind bass features a semi-hollow swamp ash body with a Brazilian rosewood top. This rosewood it old stock, I bought a batch of Brazilian from an estate sale in Montecito Ca, all the way back in 2001. It had been stored by the owner for over 25 years before I got it. This is the only Mb-2 (4) string to be made with a Brazilian rosewood top.
The neck is made from rock maple, with a very light birdseye figure in parts of it. The unlined fingerboard is made from Macasser ebony, and features the integrated thumbrest, which floats just above the top of the bass, avoiding the need to glue a thumrest to the top. I have found over the years, listening to many basses, that unlined fingerboards have a touch more sustain and punch, due to the fact that they do not have the fret slots cut…providing a purely solid fingerboard. The headstock has a matching Brazilian rosewood overlay. The bridge is made from Macasser ebony, matching the fingerboard.
Strings are the La Bella 760n, a steel flatwound with a thin black nylon outer wrap. These strings are very smooth to the touch, and make intonation on a fretless much easier, as you can glide to pitch and then make micro-adjustments easily by simply rolling your finger slightly. The steel core allows for a punchy attack, while the outer nylon wrap softens the top end, making for a full warm sound.
A custom made form fit case (produced in Los Angeles by G&G cases) is included.
