Deep 4 Koa fretless Bass #1571
Deep 4 Koa fretless Bass #1571
Deep 4 Koa #1571. This beautiful instrument features a semi hollow alder body with a curly koa top and f-hole. This koa wood is from aged stock, it is over 50 years old; perfect for instrument making as it is very dry and resonant. The 34” scale neck is made with a 5 piece construction of black walnut and rosewood strips. The fingerboard is made from Indian Rosewood (also well seasoned stock 25+ years old) with maple “line” markers, the integrated thumbrest option, and also features an overlay of Brazilian rosewood on the headstock. The bridge and knobs are also made from Indian rosewood. The stacked tone control has been moved to the face of the body (older models have it incorporated into the bridge on the bass side) to facilitate easier palm muting technique. This bass features RotoSound Tru-Bass 88 strings, they have a thick, somewhat dry sound with a fairly quick decay, which imparts a beautiful upright bass type of quality to the sound. A locally made (Los Angeles) custom form fit case hardshell case rounds out the package.
